Our first release project, devoted entirely to the work of Hawaiian steel guitar wizard Sam Ku . We reissue his entire recorded output, bar one track which is easily available elsewhere, from 1927 and 1928, and from labels like Gennett, Vocalion, Victor and Banner...26 sides in all .
The extensively researched booklet tells for the first time ever the story of Sam's extraordinary career and his travels across the globe. Thanks to generous assistance from Sam's descendants we also include several previously unknown photos . With input from the Hawaii State Library and libraries in Singapore, Hong Kong, London, New York and Manila we've pieced together the remarkable journey Sam 's life took with Irene West before his tragic death in Paris in 1930.
With 78 transfers by David Stewart, Malcolm Rockwell, Norman Field and access to the leading collections of vintage Hawaiian 78s across the globe -so ensuring the best possible copies, remastering by Graham Newton, Bob Armstrong artwork, and an introduction to the booklet by Bob Brozman!
