Grass Skirt Records is a small record label devoted to reissuing long lost gems of Hawaiian steel guitar from the 1920s and 1930s. We're based in the  north of England near Manchester.

We have  released three CDs of 1920s/1930s  Hawaiian steel guitar masters...the first devoted to the wonderful Sam Ku West , the second to the Sunset / Hollywood label and it's main artist, the great Sol Hoopii.

Most recently our third disc was released and for this one we moved to  Paris in the 1930s and Gino Bordin, the foremost player in France at that time. We were most fortunate to be able to work closely with Cyril LeFebvre, the world's leading authority on Bordin and his contemporaries on track selection and also have access to his collection of Bordin material. With extensive notes , in French and English, loads of photos of Gino  and 25 gems transferred from 78 and re-mastered by Ted Kendall , this is yet another Grass Skirt you will want ! We  plan to stock a series of CDs which are currently being planned by our colleagues at Stylo Magic. One of those projects is the Spanish steel player Daniel Arnau, but they still need to locate copies of just one of his four known  78s for Disque Henry and both his recordings for Fotosonor. If you know anyone who can help please let us know and we will pass the information to our friends at S-M.

In addition to our own Grass Skirt releases we have copies of CDs by friends of ours , such as Martin Wheatley , Robert Armstrong, the Sweet Hollywaiians and   Rol Junell and his Hawaiian Novelty Orchestra.  Please note that we have sold out of copies of Alex Burns' excellent " Adventures in Paradise" release but there is a link on this site to his myspace site where you can easily order a copy.
